Ling Wan Monastery ( 凌雲寺) located in the northwestern foothills of Guanyin Mountain in Shigang, near Jinxiang, in Jintian, Hong Kong. Founded during the Ming Dynasty in Xuande, the eldest son, Deng Hongyi, Deng Chih-chih, Deng Chin, established his name as “Ling Yun Jing Room”. One of the three major ancient temples in Hong Kong is in the same name as Ling Du Temple and Castle Peak Buddhist Temple.

Lingyun Temple is not only one of the three largest ancient temples in Hong Kong, but also the only one of the three major ancient temples in Hong Kong managed by female monks. It bears witness to the history of Buddhism in Hong Kong, the creation of Hong Kong's first women's Buddhist school, and the opening of the precepts of Hong Kong. Now, Lingyun Temple is a cleansing dojo for women. In addition to adhering to the traditional court rules of Lingyun Temple, this temple promotes Buddhism, promotes Buddhism, uses Buddhism to counsel, teaches, and needs believers and visitors. The temple regularly holds meditation activities such as lecturing, meditation, chanting, and worshipping. Provide the public with purification of the soul, the cultivation of good roots, and the opening of wisdom and the environment.Over the past several decades, the temple has endeavored to maintain the historic site and its surroundings for more than 600 years, emphasizing greening and environmental protection, so that all visitors to this place can feel the harmony between the temple and the natural environment. peaceful.
In Ling Wan Monastery, there are a few of dogs. They are stray dog.Luckily, the host of the Ling Wan Monastery adopt them. Thus, they have new life. They are friendly and obedient.Especially, they are very clever. In the Monastery, there is not any clock. Therefore, all the people have to take attention by themselves. The host only use a bell to remind people it is time to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Hence, those dogs will bark, they will call people to have meal. They are helpful and smart dog.In the past, they may have some painful or horrible experience. But they are happy and satisfied now.Ling Wan Monastery is an amazing place, which can change people's mind ,even their life.
My group mate Hana and me!We went to there by MTR and Uber. Although it's location is quit far for me, it is a amazing place. It is worth to visit.
Ling Wan Monastery which is a amazing place. The air of there is very fresh and the environment is comfortable. Moreover, the host of the Ling Wan Monastery is an environmentalist. Thus, they did well-done of the environmental protection. There is peaceful and tranquil. Hence, you can enjoy the view and the air in there. Also, I think there is a good place for reading, writing or sleeping.I felt relaxed in there.

Furthermore,I try the vegetarian in there.Which is a simple meal but still very yummy! We must eat all the food that we have. Can not waste any food in there. Thus, you have to decide how many you can eat before you take the food."Food Wise "is their aim. Especially,we must keep quiet during we were having the meal.Nobody can speak even the worker who assign the food to us.It is because while you are having your meals, you should not talk to avoid having dyspepsia. If you want to have a good sleep, you must keep calm and have no complaint. Those ideas are come from Confucianism.Which can help people to build up a healthy eating habit. Thus,I think this experience was improve me to begin a healthy life style.

This is an amazing experience.I love this activity and this course.Which broaden my horizon and help me to gain  more knowledge.Ling Wan Monastery is a wonderful place. It likes a paradise. There is relaxing and comfortable place.I guess i will encourage my friends or my family members to go to.It is worth to everyone to view and enjoy the environment of there. There like  an oasis in Hong Kong.

  1. Hi I am Chan Pui Yee from Buddhism group 2. We visited two old monasteries from the three major ancient Buddhist temples in Hong Kong in this semester, they are Tsing Shan Monastery (another name: Castle Peak Buddhist Temple) and Ling Wan Monastery. Ling Wan Monastery is build up for the female monks. I think the characteristic of the temple is because of this point. The environment of this monastery is very peaceful. The staff explained that it is because the monks spend a lot of time on read and sing the Buddhist scripture every day and regularly. The plants and trees around and inside the monastery listen to the Buddhist scripture every day, so they are peaceful, grow rapidly and keep in a good condition.

One of the characteristic of Ling Wan Monastery are flexible. The monks are promoting not to burn the paper and candlelight in the religion ceremony, as it creates an air pollution problem to the monastery. Especially they do not hope the believers to plug the candlelight in the fruits, it wastes the foods. Instead of burning candlelight, the staff encourage believers bring flowers to pray. They will upcycle and reuse the flowers and remaining food for farming. For example, they share the fruit which was brought by the believer for praying, to all of the believers in the ceremonial lunch(過堂飯). These good efforts make the monastery full of fresh air, and create a peaceful environment for plant and people.

There are many stray dogs live in the monastery as the monk do not hope they become homeless, none teach them and may hurt people. Some dogs are very kind to people. Some of the dog have a high sense responsibility and they believe themselves are the staff of the monastery. I observed that they stood on a high place and kept on looking at the entry fixedly, look like they were waiting for the believers to come for the ceremony. Also, they helped tp call for the visitors and believers enter the hall to have the ceremonial lunch, when they heard the bell rang. I think living in peaceful environment have nurtured the spirituality for the dog, these dogs are different with the normal dog.
