CSL1026 2018年3月12日(Mon) 15:00-16:00 探訪佛教沈馬瑞英護理安老院並進行服務
Our CSL group had been to nursing home on Mar 12th at Kwun Tong. I had an unforgettable experience at this Monday since the elders in this visiting activities aged almost over 86 years old. For me, this was my first time to get touch with a group of elders in this age period. According to elders' preference, we prepared some classic songs such as The Moon Represents My Heart, and some simply English songs for our show. After that, we planned 20 minutes to have chat with elders in the dinning room, through this part, we hoped to get some responses and evaluation towards our show.
However, something were beyond our expectations, because of the higher age grade, most of elders were not only have limitation on daily activities such as having meals, washing faces, but also have visual disturbances and brain degeneration, they could not even communicate normally. In this situation, we did not get enough responses in the process of our performance. Also, the time limitation made us too rushed to finish our performance since elders had to have meals at 5 o'clock. So we felt a little regretful since these elders were not as passionate as the groups we met before.
After the visiting of Super Silver, every member in our group develop the communicating skills with elders, especially praising them with beautiful words. In another way, I discover Hong Kong's ageing population is growing eventually which has became a popular social issue. In the future, I will pay more attention on Hong Kong elderly services.
I am kitty Ho YingHei 11255985 from group2 and I had also been to the same field trip. I think your blog is very clear in describing the situation of the activity. I agree that the reality does not meet our expectations. Since the elderly in this place are older than the elderly we've met in the past field trip, it will be harder for us to get much responses from them. Although we might felt a bit regretful from their low tension, we still serve them sincerely and interact with them. It was challenging but also a quite meaningful experience. Thank you for your sharing.
回复删除I am TSE YAN from group 1. The photos and videos that you take could show that this was a meaningful activity. I also joined this volunteer activity and this was a good chance for us to do social work and help elderly. Most of us have planed some songs and performance for the elderly that day. As a university student, we have responsibility to serve our society. I believe that you could enjoy it and hope we could understand more about how Buddhism affect our lives through this course.
回复删除Hello, I am Cindy Zeng Yang Xing from group 4. I am touched by the co-operation given by the elderly although they are too old to give reaction. I can feel how hard and courage from them. As you mentioned, the elderly have higher age grade compare to the volunteer works before. It is hard for them to move or give reply. Growing up and being older are the must path that people should experience, buy how to pass through with fly colours or no regrets? It makes me reflect the meaning of life and what the most importance thing is in our life.
回复删除Hi, I am Alvin from group 3. This is challenge to catch the attention from those elderly that day. This is because they are weak and inconvenient. But I still appreciate to all of us to try our best to interact with them, talk with them and care with them. Anyway, it is a good experience to meet some inconvenient elderly and have some activities with them.
