This was my first time to visit elderly center and I was very excited! Before the activities, out tutor Polly organized us discussing specific activities we were going to do. After the discussion, we decided to form in 3 groups and each groups would play the show individually. In my own group, we prepared 30 commonsense questions and 5 songs, and elders could get cakes as gifts if they answered correctly. For other group, they even brought guitar to play accompaniment music when they singing songs. 

In the beginning of the visiting activities, we were welcomed by all elders and staff in elderly center since they were really passionate for our coming. Then we introduced ourselves firstly, when I started talking with elders, I saw smile on their faces, I did not feel nervous anymore since the atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. 

In the end of this visiting activity, we played a game called tearing game together. We made a circle and sat besides with elders, everyone had chance to tear an A4 paper, and the winner would be the group who had tearing the longest paper slip. In the process of tearing game, I chatted with elders about their daily life, self preference and got the responses about out group show. I felt touched because they were all benevolent to us, still have high expectation and positive attitude towards their life even they were already senile.

    Hi, this is Matthew Li from group 5. I think you guys have a good performance during the service and satisfy the event. The games and communication with elderly can have a high interaction with them and make the environment actively. I believe that the elders have shared many long life stories and you guys can have high motivation and positive attitude after this social service.

    I am TSE YAN from group 1. I like the photos that you guys showed and I believe that this activity was a good chance for you to help elderly. I could feel that you have planned different performances for the elderly that day, such as singing songs and playing games. I believe that you could enjoy it and hope we could understand more about how Buddhism affect our lives through this course

    I am Zeng Yang Xing Cindy. I have joined this volunteer works with you guys before. We have prepared different kind of activities such as singing performance, guessing game and ball game.
    They says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”, we gains things more than we gives.

    I am Tang Wing Sze from group 3. I did not join this service but i joined other services of the elderly centre. I felt that they were happy because they hoped the teens talked and played with them. They were very talkative so I was not embarrassed. I also felt that they were lonely because their son or daughter work very hard so they have no time to visit their parents. They hoped someone can listen their words so I hope that we can organize more volunteer group to visit them.

Our CSL group had been to nursing home on Mar 12th at Kwun Tong. I had an unforgettable experience at this Monday since the elders in this visiting activities aged almost over 86 years old. For me, this was my first time to get touch with a group of elders in this age period. According to elders' preference, we prepared some classic songs such as The Moon Represents My Heart , and some simply English songs for our show. After that, we planned 20 minutes to have chat with elders in the dinning room, through this part, we hoped to get some responses and evaluation towards our show.  However, something were beyond our expectations, because of the higher age grade, most of elders were not only have limitation on daily activities such as having meals, washing faces, but also have visual disturbances and brain degeneration, they could not even communicate normally. sing Grandparents watching the show Grandparents here, some disabled, some legs and feet inconvenient, some ears, others can not speak, our school students are very patient to listen to them, talk to them, talk. Talking to Grandma. And finally, a photo of everyone and grandparents. Through this volunteer activity, everybody's feeling is also very deep, this is a very profound activity. I hope you can respect the old and love the young and be kind to the elderly, because they are the people in the world who most need care and greetings. Do not need too much words, do not need the performance of passion, just stretch out our warm hands, to hold the hands that were ruthlessly crushed by the years.
