CSL 1026 2018年3月19日(Mon)下午13:00至16:30 探訪鄰舍中心
Since I had been to visit elders for several times before, I was not nervous about communication and talent show at this time. As usual, out tutor Polly has organized us together discussing the activities management before this visit. Something interesting is our group was holding visiting with traditional Chinese medical service department, the TCM gave a speech about health firstly, then we played our show and games with elders. This management helped elders to get both health knowledge and happiness.
At the beginning of the activities, we became helpers to distribute flower tee and dessert for elders who participate into the visit. Then we played our talent show such as singing songs, playing violins in front of the room. After that, the other group played some classical songs such as the songs from Beyond, it was tacit that most of elders singing together with students. In addition, the activities made me unforgettable is passing ball game, which means we played a piece of music, when the music stopped, the people holding the ball had chance to answer a commonsense question. I discovered the atmosphere were exciting since most of elders have large interest to participate in this game. As for the questions, considering about elders' knowledge level, we planned 40 questions all about elderly. For example, what is year before 10 years; What is the bus fee when an elderly taking bus and many other simply word puzzles. The music is fascinating and the question is easy enough for elders. Then when did we cut the music off? In fact, we stopped the music intentionally because we hoped every elder had chance to answer the questions and get gifts, this was our tiny trick.
In the end, it was touched to hear acknowledgments from them before we left. We took photos with principal in elders center for commemoration and finished our visiting.
I am kitty Ho YingHei 11255985from group2 who had been to the elderly home together with you guys. I agree that the atmosphere of the service was fantastic since almost all of the elderly had participate in the ball passing game passionately. At that time, I was the one who play the music during the game. As you have mentioned in your blogging content, I had been observing the elderly and intentionally pause the music when I see the ball was holding by different person. I played a little trick on them, and choose someone seems a bit resisting (in holding the ball) to answer our questions. It is because we want to get everyone to play the game with us and bring the happiness to all of them. I think your blog has done a very good job on describing the details of the activity, and including your own feelings in it. I believe that we all had a great time and have learned something in this field trip. Thanks for your sharing.

This was a meaningful activity which was a good chance for me to do social work and designed performances for the elderly. As a university student, we have responsibility to serve our society. Hope you could enjoy it and understand more about how Buddhism affect our society through this course. By the way, maybe there were some problems about the photos and hope you could fix them haha
